People of Arunachal will decide who shall run the government: AAPSU
“State government’s silence worrying”
ITANAGAR Mar 8: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has expressed deep concern over threat issued by NSCN (K) against ministers and MLAs belonging to Tirap and Changlang district to withdraw support to Dorjee Khandu led government. In a press statement AAPSU President Takam Tatung has termed this act as a slap on the face of people of Arunachal Pradesh.
“We respect the sentiment of Naga people and their long fight for dignity. But interfering in the affairs of other state is something we do not expect from underground group like NSCN (K). We have elected government and it is up to people of Arunachal to decide who shall run the government,” said AAPSU President Takam Tatung. Further he added, “MLAs and ministers of Tirap and Changlang are Arunachalee citizens and they are voted to power by Arunachalee citizens of two districts. It’s unfair on the part of UG group from outside state to dictate the political affairs of Arunachal.”
AAPSU has further questioned silence of state government in this whole matter. “It’s amazing how state government is keeping silence over whole issue. Where has home minister of state gone hiding? Is not it his duty to respond when integrity of state is at stake at this hour. Deafening silence of home department will demoralize the morale of ordinary citizen of state,” said AAPSU President.
Tatung also took exception to recent demand for Patkai autonomous council by some human right group of Tirap. “Department of Tirap and Changlang (DoTC) has been created for speedy development of these two districts. Every year funds are specially directed to these two districts, whereas some other districts of state do not get enough funds. But nothing has improved at ground. It is hard to understand why they are demanding Patkai autonomous council after all this?” questioned Takam Tatung. AAPSU president also urged for proper monitoring on how fund under DoTC are being used at ground level.
AAPSU President has also urged leaders of Tirap and Changlang to come clean of this whole issue. “For sake of Tirap and Changlang, citizens of other districts have to face so many troubles. Also major chunk of developmental fund goes to these districts. Rest of Arunachalee wants leader of these two districts to come forward and explain their stand of this whole threat issue,” stated Takam Tatung.

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Arunachal Citizens Rights, Nefa Indigenous Human Rights Organisation, Human Rights Law Network, Women Power Connect, Arunachal chapter, Global Human Right Organisation and Arunachal Indigenous Peoples’ Union in a joint statement has expressed serious concern at the deteriorating law and order situation in Tirap district, and failure of the governments to provide security to the life and property of the common masses there.

Arunachal celebrate International Women’s Day
APSCW calls for gender budgeting in all depts
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: Along with the rest of the world, the International Women’s Day was celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh by various women organizations, political parties and other civil societies today.
The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) in collaboration with the Arunachal Pradesh State Social Welfare Advisory Board (APSSWAB) and APWWS and with support from the National Commission for Women has celebrated the International Women’s Day in a grand manner at the Oju Welfare Association office premises.
Addressing a mammoth gathering of women on the occasion, the APSCW Chairperson Komoli Mossang hoped that women would be able to look forward to an era of peace, progress and prosperity. Mossang also called on the Government to initiate the gender budgeting in every department for concerns and needs of the women. Earleir, the APSCW chairperson paid her homage to pioneering women leaders of Arunachal Pradesh Late Padmashree Omem Moyang Deori and Late Nyari Welly.
The Chairperson of APSSWAB Marina Nido speaking as the guest of honor called upon the society to fight against social evils like alcoholism. Women should learn to overcome their own weakness in order to work for wellbeing of the family and society as a whole, she said.
Binny Yanga, the recipient of the Durga Bai Deshmukh Award for her contribution towards uplift of the society, called upon the Government to ensure strict enforcement of anti tobacco regulation including ban on chewing tobacco products. Binny Yanga through a memorandum called upon the authorities of education and health departments to ensure that the infrastructure made available by the Government is not only well maintained but fully equipped too.
Gumri Ringu, President APWWS and former Chairperson APSSWAB and former member APSCW, also organizer of the event, called upon the women of Arunachal Pradesh to stand up for their rights. At the same time she urged the women not to misuse the sanctions of the law.

Daporijo: The women of Daporijo came together today in full force, in show of strength to celebrate the 100 years of International Women’s Day by taking out a procession around the town which culminated in a dance and song competition organized by IDEA, Daporijo Unit and District ICDS Cell, Daporijo at the Sacred Heart School, Daporijo.
The celebration was graced by MLA Tapen Siga as Chief Guest and Yakap Lote ZPM as guest of honour.
This is the day when women should take a pause to realize their strength and the immense potential that they have to do anything if they put their heart and soul to it, stated Tapen Siga while addressing the women present on the occasion of International Women’s Day. He encouraged all to change their preconceived mindset about women, starting with themselves, so that women would come forward and in turn the society would progress and prosper.
Yakap Lote enjoined all women to be strong and take proper care of themselves and their families. Citing her own example, she said that her generation of women were given into child marriage and did not get a chance to gain proper education. This should not deter any woman and education should be encouraged and practices like child marriage should be done away with, she added.

Speaking on the occasion Sanant Kamal, Commandant 36 BN, CRPF exhorted the women to come forward and work for weaker sections. Stressing the need of dissemination of awareness on various issues like education and job oriented schemes, Kamal hailed the wives of force members for leading a seamless affair in their home when men are supposed to be deployed mostly in the terrain areas like Arunachal Pradesh. Apart from the lady wives of officers and jawans, the women folks of nearby locality have also enthusiastically took part in various programme including musical competition, art works and making of fake ornament using pop corn on the occasion.

The Women’s Day program at Siyum was inaugurated by a peace rally followed by cultural programmes and competitions. Fr. ITANAGAR, Mar 8: International Women’s Day has been celebrated in a unique way in a little known small village Changlopotum by inviting illiterate poor women, who have the spirit to fight against poverty, unemployment, injustice and exploitations as resources persons.
Action Aid Society Arunachal president S Teetu Yoka, while briefing the significance of the day (IWD), described the act of bravery and the pivotal role played by Indian women in development of the society. She spoke about various laws relating to women’s rights.
The womenfolk, while sharing their personal experiences, said that most of our tribal women are victimized in every walk of life as forced marriage, child marriage and polygamy are still popular in tribal society. Parents have the final say in their marriages. We are exchanged like commodities to up keep their family relationship. Now, time has come to stop this evil practices and this should not be happened in our children’s case, Lingdum Yage, one of group leaders, has said.

Pasighat Forestry College celebrates 10th Foundation Day

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) expresses its deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolence over the demise of Yowa Takar, one of the prominent figures in Nyishi Community.
Yowa who served the State in various capacities passed away at his Model village, Naharlagun residence on Sunday afternoon following a prolonged illness.
“His demise is not only an irreparable loss to his family or Nyishi community alone but the vacuum created with his departure will be felt by the State. The departed soul would always be remembered for his simplicity, honesty and dedication towards his works”, it said.
The NES pray to the almighty for eternal peace of the departed soul and to bestow enough strength to the bereaved family members to bear the irreparable loss.
Late Takar was born on 1st March 1946 and was among the first officers in the Nyishi community. Takar is survived by his two wives, three sons and four daughters.

While speaking at the valedictory function as Chief Guest ASM Chairperson Tarh Yaki Gollo, appreciated the services provided by NN Charitable Society (NNCS) and NABARD.
She assured to provide 30 numbers of CGI sheet for construction of shed.
ASM Sakiang Panchayat Chukhu Nikia urged the NNCS to provide proper marketing facility so that the local artisans could get their remuneration and added that the SDP training programme has increased the innovative skills of the local artisans.
APRB Yazali Branch, Branch Manager Anup Paul highlighted about various grants available with the banks for interested artisans and suggested the trainees to establish their own unit after availing the training programme.
The official further said that interested artisans who could set up their own unit will be provided Artisan Credit Loan (ACC) and urged the beneficiary to return the borrowed amount timely so that the banks may be able to grant further loans to other needy artisans.
The valedictory function was attended by officials from NABARD Regional Office Itanagar, GBs, PRI leaders, youths, intellectuals, officers and officials from line departments and general public of the area.
Beside this, NN Charitable Society has also conducted another 30 days SDP programme on Broom making and its plantation at Pistana. On the valedictory function on March 6, Circle Officer Pistana circle appreciated the NNCS for providing such innovative training to the local artisans of the area. The Circle Officer expressed hope that training programme would improve the quality brooms cultivation in the area.

East Unit, Itanagar had bagged two “SCHOLL Research Challenge 2010 Awards”. The awards
were given to two case studies/projects of the Institute for high caliber action
research in development and governance that have potential for demonstrated impact
on policy or society at large. The case studies are: “Biodiversity conservation
through community based natural resource management in Arunachal Pradesh” in the
category ‘Sustainable Development and Preservation of the Ecosystem’ and “Technology
backstopping: a key to agricultural and entrepreneurship development in North East-
Dr Prasanna K. Samal, Scientist incharge of the Institute and also Principal Investigator of both the projects/case studies informed that out of the six categories – (1) Good Governance, (2) Sustainable Development and Preserving Ecosystem, (3) Livelihood and Enterprise Promotion, (4) Macro and Micro Economic Growth and Management, (5) Education and Human Resource Development and (6) Technology Development and Innovative Solutions), the Institute has bagged two awards for two of its nominations mentioned above. The SCHOLL Research Challenge Awards are given by National Foundation for India and North East Development Foundation being sponsored by IDRC, Canada.

Propsal for school for special children
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: All Arunachal Pradesh Handicapped Welfare Society (AAPHWS) has proposed to open a school for mentally retarded and physically handicapped children at the allotted plot of land at Papunallah, Naharlagun.
The society which met today to review the functioning of AAPHWS, decided to evict all encroachers from the allotted plot with the help of district administration to start construction of the school building. The meeting further decided to take up all pending issues with government such as job reservation, pensions for the disabled, free education for children of disable, construction of a colony for the handicapped at Karasinga etc.
Membership drive to register all disabled and underprivileged people in the state would also be carried out and identity cards would be provided to the members to avail the benefits provided by the Government and the society itself.
Union demands arrest
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: The students of RGU belonging to Tirap and Changlang have called for early arrest of those involved in the murder of Chukam Khimahun, BA Final Year student of DNGC, Itanagar.
“We are concerned and dismayed to know that the culprits have not been arrested so far”, the Union said and called that the culprit be arrested immediately without any further delay.
Army repatriates youth to Pak troops in Poonch
Jammu, Mar 8: The Army troops today repatriated youth to Pakistani Army, who inadvertently crossed over to this side of the border from a forward outpost along Line of Control in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
‘’A youth identified as Neera Ali, who was arrested few days ago by the Army in Dheri area of Mendhar tehsil was repatriated to the Pakistan at a flag meeting at Tatapaani,’’ official sources here said.
They said the senior officers of both India and Pakistan side were present at the meet. ‘’The Army also presented some gifts and eatables while he was repatriated to Pakistani troops,’’ they added.

AR provides solar lamps
ITANAGAR, Mar 8: A total of 20 solar light units have been installed in four villages of Tirap district by 19 Assam Rifles recently.
Five solar lights in each villages viz. Noglo, Wakka, Hunkan and Kheti have been provided by Assam Rifles under its Military Civic Action Programme.
The solar lights were installed after the villagers requested Colonel Naveen, Vir Chakra Commandant, 19 Assam Rifles for providing assistance since the area was badly affected by erratic power supply.
Meanwhile, the villagers expressed their gratitude to the unit for responding promptly to their request to provide the lights.

ITANAGAR, Mar 8: United Leil Tara Youth Foundation (ULTYF) said that it has conducted an enquiry into the allegations leveled against Er T K Tara by Chandranagar Welfare Committee president and Bem Welfare Society. After thorough enquiry, the foundation claimed, it has found that allegations and accusation were totally false, baseless, misleading and in order to defame the hard earned reputation of the engineer.
While condemning the Bem Welfare Society for allegedly ‘indulging and misusing their Society’s banner’, the Foundation said that it would not tolerate any attempt to tarnish the image of any one of their member without valid reason.

Morning tea and Traffic woes
Dear Editor,
Each and every sip of morning tea reminds citizens, especially the students and the service holders about the prevailing traffic situation and the woes that they would face while on their way to work and institutions.
The ongoing work on the NH 52 of capital complex road has disrupted and caused massive inconvenience to the people of capital complex especially at peak hour when Board examination for secondary and higher secondary is on. This rush hour causes delay and could even cause road accidents if proper steps are not taken. Perhaps the construction work could be continued during night hours when the traffic is thin and even at day during government holidays.
Moreover, the road construction work carried out could be declared temporary. It is obvious that during summer when rain falls, the rain water will be accumulated on the road. The drains on both side of the roads will be jam packed, blocked and in dilapidated state as it is always, resulting in road cracks and potholes, unless the concerned department concentrate on drain maintenance.
Therefore, it is my earnest appeal to the concerned departments of Traffic as well as the construction department to take serious measures about the prevailing condition for the convenience and betterment of the public.

We need restoration of our rights
Dear Editor,
I refer to your news "Ering visits Vijoynagar, assures to take up Yobin ST issue" on 6 March.
First of all I am very glad that MP of our constituency made effort to visit us. Along with that he has announced development programs as well.
But what frustrates me is his response that he'll take the matter to the Parliament. This kind of promise is nothing new to us. Instead he should have done something prior to his visit.
We are not seeking for PRC. We need restoration of our right ST status.

Not at the cost of mithuns
Dear Editor,
“We need to save and preserve mithuns”. One can hear these words from almost every Arunachalee, but it is easier said than done.
In a single year, we can see hundreds of mithuns being sacrificed for family rituals, marriages and festivals in Arunachal Pradesh.
Now one may say that,"it is our culture and tradition to do so. "well, I do agree that it is our culture and tradition which we have inherited from our forefathers to sacrifice mithuns in rituals, marriages and festivals from time immemorial. We must preserve our culture and tradition , but not at the cost of extinction of mithuns.
Its time for us to cooperate with each other towards preservation of mithuns. Else, a day may come when our great grand children will find mithuns only in books and documentaries just like we do of dinosaurs today, if proper initiatives are not taken to save and preserve mithuns with time remaining.

Who will listen to us?
Dear Editor,
It is shocking to see the directive letters written by NSCN K published in your esteemed daily. It is more interesting to see the reactions of Political parties in the state. I would like to inform the CM and other political parties that such warning letters are common phenomenon in this two district.
It is commonly given to the officers and official working in the Tirap & Changlang District. Such letters are not new for us. For them, it may be very important because it is address to the CM, there is a question of life and security of the legislator and more importantly the power. But for us who cares because our life is not important for the politicians. There is no need to create hue and cry for one letter. Here we are not only getting such letters frequently, we have been asked to provide food and shelter in our already congested government quarter. Our salary is being deducted for them which have resulted in insufficiency to feed our family. We don’t have extra money like DOTC to give some share to them. For them, personal security will protect but for us, we are only in mercy of god. But life is still going on although it has become hell.
Instead of being worried about our legislators do something to bring permanent solution for officers and officials working in these district and for lasting peace in the region for general public.

You would not find morality, honesty in them. Their first and foremost aim is to accumulate properties by any means. They are the real enemy of the state.
However, “every cloud has a silver lining.”
The crack down initiated by police against illegal appointments deserves appreciations from all quarters. The firm step taken by various student organizations, including AAPSU, ALSU, AdiSU, GSU against corruptions by our so called leaders have brought hopes to the hapless one. It would be great to see if all such organizations work from same platform in united manner to fight against such illegal appointments and corruptions. If succeed, it would be matter of great relief to all those who have been running from pillar to post to land a job.
